Biography

mapAbout Me:

I was born on July 6 1970 in Evanston Illinois. Outside of a year in which I lived in Missoula Montana, I spent most of my life in Chicago. In 1997 I moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin.

I have a BFA in painting from the University Of Illinois Chicago. I did not really learn much in art school other than how to be a better bullshitter about art and that the better artists were the ones that did not try to look like artists. I also got in trouble in art school helping a fellow student use a human cadaver head in a sculpture.

Influences:

I have none in terms of photography. In my glass paintings I have tried to find a ground between the paintings of Giacommeti and Soutine. There are so many other painters I adore that I could spend hours on that subject alone.

In my music, there are so many influences that I would not know where to begin. Jimmy Giuffre and Robert Wyatt mean a lot to me, as well as John Coltrane and the string quartets of David Diamond, Quincy Porter, and Scelsi. I am deeply fascinated by traditional Indian Classical music as well as religious European music from 12-1500’s. In the recording process, the people that I deeply respect are Rudy Van Gelder and Steve Albini, and I like what Daniel Lanois does as well.
